Biography of Martin Luther King.Jr 


Dr Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister, activist humanitarian, and also known to be the leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was born in Atlanta , Georgia on January 15th in 1929. His real name was Michael king. During his trip to Germany his father was impressed by the character of Martin Luther King, so he decided to change both his name and his son's name. That is why he is called Martin Luther King jr. 


At the age of fifteen Dr Martin went to college and later he entered Boston University. There he completed his school work. In 1953, while he was there he met his love Coretta Scott. She was studying at the New England Conservatory of music. Later that year they got married.

Dr. Martin Luther King also took part in the March on Washington on August 28th , 1963, where he gave his world famous speech " I HAVE A DREAM ".  He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was murdered on April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee while he was standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel.


On November 2nd, 1983 a federal holiday was declared in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. by President Ronald Reagan.
